The Basics of Poker

Poker

Often referred to as the gambling game of chance, Poker is played with a standard deck of 52 cards. The aim of the game is to make the best poker hand possible while minimizing the number of chips you lose.

A poker hand is made up of five cards, two of which are in the same suit. The highest card is a jack, while the lowest is an ace. The smallest possible hand is a pair of jacks.

A high card is also the key to winning a tie. A tie is broken when all the players have the same card as the high card. If everyone has a king, a jack, and an ace, then the king is the winner.

Some variants of the game use multiple packs. For example, a game called Canasta uses two jokers. A blue chip is worth two, four, or five reds.

A bluff is a tactic used by a player to make a bet that is likely to fool his opponents. The bet is in the form of a “raised” bet, where each player to the left of the original bettor must make a “call” or fold. The bet is made in the middle of the pot. The player who does not make a call is said to “fold”.

In the game of Poker, a blue chip is the sexiest. It is usually worth at least ten, twenty, or twenty-five whites. The blue chip is also the smallest chip in the pack.
