A casino is a gambling establishment where people can play various games of chance for money or other prizes. Often, these places are highly profitable and attract many customers. However, there are some important things that should be considered before going to a casino. These tips can help you make the most out of your gambling experience.
Unlike other Vegas movies that show only the opulence, neon signs and gamblers trying their luck at slots and cards, this one digs down, exposing the city’s roots in organized crime. Scorsese tells the story with his trademark energy and pacing, but he’s also careful to include details that feel just right. The fact that Ace orders the casino cooks to put exactly the same amount of blueberries in every muffin, for example, or that airborne feds are circling a golf course just as low-level hoods keep records of their expenses, help make the story believable.
It’s hard to think of another movie that so successfully conveys the essence of Las Vegas – both the seedy underbelly and its glitz and glamour. Robert De Niro and Sharon Stone’s performances are both excellent, but Joe Pesci might be the best of all – his menacing presence makes him the movie’s true star. This is also one of the most violent movies Scorsese has made, and scenes like the torture of a junkie by a mobster with a vice grip, or the climactic shootout in which Nicky turns himself into a blood-soaked hound after Ginger are shocking but believable.
